#ESC2019: Tel Aviv 2019

Dare to Dream ...

This week has been a whirlwind of Eurovision wonderfulness. I’m currently “live blogging” – about 40 minutes behind. I’ve checked the odds, and things are looking hopeful for my native #Sweden.

I have a long-standing enthusiasm for Eurovision, and have been asked to provide media commentary a couple of times – though I’m still waiting to be asked to be Dr Eurovision *nudge, nudge, BBC*. Usually it’s about how well the UK will do, and usually my response has been that rhyming sneezes and diseases (Electro Velvet 2015) won’t cut it.

I find Eurovision an interesting insight into how Europe is understanding popular music genres, and what the current Zeitgeist is. It is also interesting to think about performance, stage use & proxemics (how performers move and relate to each other on stage), and I really enjoy seeing how music videos are changing the way the performers are choreographing their pieces.

In any case, I think my vote goes to Iceland tonight (sorry, John). For more Eurovision thoughts, have a look at this “moderately amusing” account by Pete, who frequently tries to convince me he is the real Dr Eurovision ...
